For Sophomore Inspire week we had many stations to go through that were to help us get ready for college and college preparation as well as applying for colleges next year. For one of the stations, we were coached on how to make a good resume and what makes up a good resume. We went through what you should have and what you should not have on a resume. We also went through how long it should be. A resume should contain your successes related to the job that you are applying for as well as some that are not as related but could still help you get the job. If it is to get to a school you should list your greatest achievements as well as things that you do outside of school and how you do in school. This includes GPA your current and past schooling and your classes. A resume should not be more than 2 pages long because you will lose the readers attention quickly. You want to make it please to the eye and use bullet points and minimal paragraphs. We also learned that a resume only gets looked at for an average of 6 seconds before being thrown into a yes or no pile. We went through good and bad resumes and then talked about them afterwards and how we would change them. In the end, we all created our resumes with the new information we had learned that week.
